Felony Arrest After Victim Discovers Camera Disguised As Smoke Alarm | Yorktown, NY Patch

YORKTOWN/SOMERS, NY — A Westchester woman is facing a felony charge after a hidden camera was discovered in a surprising place.

The Yorktown Police Department says that an Amawalk woman was arrested and charged with felony eavesdropping.

On March 12, around 6:52 p.m., Yorktown police received a report about a suspicious incident involving eavesdropping.

After an officer conducted an investigation, police say that a camera disguised as a smoke detector was placed inside of the victim's private office without her knowledge or permission.

Police say that 64-year-old Mrudangi Thakur had knowledge of the camera being placed inside the victim's office.

On Sunday, around 4:40 p.m., Thakur turned herself in at the Yorktown Police Department. She was charged with felony eavesdropping.

After processing, she was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on April 15.
